Sometimes You Need A Big Head

english springer spaniel sometimes you need a big head1 Sometimes You Need A Big Head

If someone tells us we have a big head, that’s not a compliment.  But maybe it should be.

Joyful Springers know sometimes you need a big head.  They know that when others aren’t going to cheer for them and exult in their triumphs, they need to do it for themselves.

Instead of waiting for someone else to say, “You did good!”, do it for yourself.  Go ahead and be pleased with yourself. It’s called confidence.   There’s nothing wrong with acknowledging your value as long as you don’t belittle the value in others.

[Ducky's sister, Lucy, really doesn't have a big head.  It was just the severe camera angle when I took her photo that makes her look that way.  She's actually perfectly proportioned and quite modest.]

Dig Beneath The Surface

English springer spaniel dig beneath the surface Dig Beneath The Surface

In the book of life, the meaning that gives richness to our existence isn’t found in the text.  It’s found in the subtext, in what’s written between the lines.

Joyful Springers dig beneath the surface.  They know that what seems to be isn’t always what is.

Go a little deeper today.  Don’t latch on to the first impression you have of what you’re seeing and hearing.  Look for the subtle layers in your experiences.

Get Real

english springer spaniel get real Get Real

We jump through so many hoops to impress people.  We try to wear the right things and talk about the right topics.  We hide our true selves behind “acceptable masks” so people won’t disapprove.

Joyful Springers get real.  They don’t need anyone’s approval to be okay, so they don’t have to pretend to be something they’re not.

Don’t waste a single moment of today saying things you don’t mean and doing things you don’t want to do.  Be you.

Profile It

English springer spaniel profile it Profile It

French essayist Joseph Joubert said, “When my friends are one-eyed, I look at their profile.”

Joyful Springers profile it.  They look for the positive aspects of those in their lives.

If you don’t like something about someone you’re dealing with, don’t pay attention to that aspect of them.  Look for what you DO like, and you’ll find even more and more to like in no time at all.

Two Beds Are Better Than One

english springer spaniel two beds are better than one Two Beds Are Better Than One

If just a little comfort and support are good, isn’t more better?

Joyful Springers know two beds are better than one.  They do whatever is necessary to have as much ease and comfort in their life as possible.

Forget “no pain, no gain.”  The truth is that the more content and comfy you are the more you’re going to accomplish.  Do whatever you need to do to make sure you have cushy surroundings, and you’ll be amazed at what you can do.

Prop Yourself Up

english springer spaniel prop yourself up Prop Yourself Up

We tend to look to others to tell us we’re okay, and when we don’t get the approval or praise we want, we feel lousy.

Joyful Springers prop themselves up.  They don’t need “atta boys” from others because they cheer for themselves.

You can be externally referenced or internally referenced.  When you’re externally referenced, your self esteem is out of your control because it depends on what others think.  If you want to take control of your life, look internally for the praise and encouragement you need.

Chain Up

english springer spaniel chain up Chain Up

Every single thing in our world is made of energy, and all energy is connected.  This means that you’re linked with everything in the world.

So when you judge someone or something, you’re judging yourself. No wonder you feel so lousy when you’re complaining.

Joyful Springers chain up.  They stay aware of their link with everyone and everything so they know that what they give away comes back to them.  This makes it easy for them to remember to give love and joy.

When you hate anything, you hate yourself.  Use appreciation to connect yourself to the flow of energy in the world, and you’ll love the way it makes you feel.

Hold Onto Your Books

Leo hold onto your books1 Hold Onto Your Books

You read it.  You got it.  You can move on. But then …

Time has a way of stealing knowledge.

Joyful Springers hold onto their books.  They build a library of information, and they keep it close so they can go back to it whenever a fact or two slip away.

You can’t be expected to know it all, but you can surround yourself with what you need to find out what you need to know.  Knowledge is power.  Books hold knowledge.  When you collect books … and read them, you grow your power.

Perch On Old Growth

img071 NOT YET Perch On Old Growth

Sometimes, problems come at us so fast we think we can’t handle them.  It feels like we don’t have the resources to cope with what’s in front of us.  The truth is, though, that we have all the resources we need–they’re in the totality of our life experience.

Joyful Springers perch on old growth.  They draw on their past triumphs to give them the strength to face whatever is before them.

Today, you might not feel as strong as you want to be.  But your strength is there–you’ve built it up over the years of your life.  Reach into your past and find a moment of power in your memories.  You can tap into that power and bring it into your now to handle whatever comes your way.

Go Over The Top

english springer spaniel go over the top Go Over The Top

If you’re going to do something, why do it halfway?

Joyful Springers go over the top.  When they feel good, they find ways to feel even better.  When they give, they give more than is expected.

You can be just what’s necessary to get by.  Or you can be exceptional.  Why not exceed even your own standards today?
