Rumple Your Sheets

Rumple your sheets mattie Rumple Your Sheets

Things on a “to do” list can be chores or they can be an opportunity for play.

Joyful Springers rumple their sheets.   They find a way to make even the most routine tasks, like making a bed, fun.

Sometimes, as the holidays approach, we can get bogged down in the “must dos” of the season.  We began to see the holidays as a tiring burden.  This year, decide you’re going to see the coming holidays as a playground for the best time you’ve had all year … and then take that attitude into next year too.

[Mattie's back. Her momma, Brenda McGee, says that Mattie is a wonderful household helper.  She makes every chore, especially changing the linens, FUN! icon smile Rumple Your Sheets ]

Sit On The Treadmill Occasionally

sit on the treadmill occasionally rudie and jackie8 Sit On The Treadmill Occasionally

During busy times of the year, like the holidays, it can feel like we’re on a treadmill of to-dos.

Joyful Springers sit on the treadmill occasionally.  They understand that they don’t always have to tick off every to-do.  They can choose to catch their breath and enjoy the moment now and then.

When you feel like you’re running in place and never catching up with yourself, take a breath.  Have a sit.  Clear your mind.  Just be.  You’ll be able to trot through your day with more energy when you make the time to rest a spell.

[Rudie and Jackie are back. These Chicago area sweeties recently learned how to use a treadmill so they can get exercise on the coldest days in winter.  Their momma took this photo when they were first getting used to the machine.  It sure looks like she has her attention. icon smile Sit On The Treadmill Occasionally ]

Talk Turkey

Thanksgiving is traditionally a family time.  So what’s the best way to get along with family?

Be in truth.

Joyful Springers talk turkey.  They don’t try to please others, even family members, by being what they aren’t.  They tell the truth about themselves and their lives.

Family get-togethers can be obligations.  Or they can be opportunities.  Consider using this Thanksgiving, and all future family times, as a chance to relate to others genuinely.

[Pringles and Triscut are back. Joan Howe's gorgeous Springers were obviously are wondering when the photo shoot would be over and when they could chow down on that turkey, but they were well-mannered girls when Joan took the picture!  . icon smile Talk Turkey ]

Grasp The Bird In Hand

Grasp the Bird in hand murph Grasp The Bird In Hand

In a material society that places so much attention on shopping and acquiring, sometimes it’s tough to “count our blessings.”

Joyful Springers grasp the bird in hand.  They spend more time appreciating what they have … and savoring the heck out of it, instead of focusing on what they want next.

Of course it’s fine to desire things.  Desire is energy that expands us.  But appreciation for what we already have is the foundation of desire.  If you don’t savor what is already yours, you’ll probably miss the joy of anything new you acquire.  When you find yourself longing for things you don’t think you can get, take a moment to relish everything that’s already in your life.

[Murph is back.  Helen Gibbons' nephew's handsome boxer clearly has the hang of "a bird in hand," or rather, in paw.  Helen and her husband, Rich, gave Murph the toy in this photo, and Murph wasn't about to let it go. icon smile Grasp The Bird In Hand ]

Stand Out

Stand out rudie Stand Out

We get a lot of messages from those around us that not so subtly encourage us to fit in, but is fitting in a goal worth going after?

Joyful Springers stand out.  They are proud of their individuality, and they aren’t willing to let others tell them how they should look or think.

Instead of feeling uncomfortable the next time you feel “wrong” for any reason (like the way you look, the things you do, the way you talk or think), take a moment to relish your YOU-ness.  There’s no one else like you on the planet, and that is as it should be.  Don’t diminish yourself by trying to be what you aren’t.

[Rudie is back. This photo was taken last winter when he was still a baby.  He's coming up on a year old now but is still as cute as can be. icon smile Stand Out ]

Be Quality Under The Hood

Be quality under the hood butch Be Quality Under The Hood

Most of us spend hundreds of dollars and hours every year attempting to spruce up our physical appearance.  And though, being clean and presentable is laudable, all the effort we expend to look good is often misplaced.

Joyful Springers are quality under the hood.  They focus more on improving what’s inside than they do worrying about what their outer shell looks like.  (And they know that the cuter they are within, the cuter they are without.)

The next time you’re about to put another charge on your credit card to buy a new outfit you don’t really need or try a new skin cream or get some expensive beauty procedure, consider saving your money and putting your resources into becoming a better person on the inside.  Find reasons to smile more.  Breathe your way to more peace.  Consciously cultivate kindness.  All your inner enhancements will shine through and make you more beautiful on the outside too.

[Butch is back.  This sweetie is very patient.  When his momma's grandson, Stevie, dressed him up in a hoodie, he accepted it with aplomb.  icon smile Be Quality Under The Hood ]

Get A Leg Up

Businessman and writer, David Weinbaum, said, “Sometimes you have to put your foot down to get a leg up.”

Joyful Springers get a leg up.  They adamantly and confidently face ahead to the next achievement and the next achievement in their lives.

If you sit back and let others tell you what you can and can’t do, you’ll never get where you want to go.  Bellying up to the truth of how magnificent you are will give you the leg up you need to achieve whatever you want to achieve.

Bravely Face Open Mouths

A lot of people do or don’t do things because of what they think other people will say.  They let fear of criticism keep them from following their dreams.

Joyful Springers bravely face open mouths.  Their attitude about others’ feedback is “Bring it on.”  They know that it doesn’t matter if other people make fun of them or find fault with them.  What matters is that they’re being true to themselves.

You will never manage to please even half of the people you encounter.   There are just too many different perspectives.  Instead of putting your energy into avoiding negative feedback, put your energy into doing what makes your heart sing.  When your heart is singing loud enough, it drowns out any criticism or unkind things that might come out of open mouths around you.

Cluster Good

Cluster TJs puppies Cluster Good

“There was a little girl who had a little curl right in the middle of her forehead.  When she was good, she was very, very good, and when she was bad, she was horrid.”  Remember that old ditty?  It’s a great reminder of how bad draws in more bad and good draws in more good and how we can choose which clump–bad or good–we want to create.

Joyful Springers cluster good.  They consciously choose to lump together as much good as they can by refusing to linger too long on the bad things in life.

When something doesn’t go your way, you can complain about it and talk about it to whoever will listen.  But when you do that, you’re inviting more things to go wrong.  Instead of issuing that invitation, you can invite things to go right by turning your attention to what has already gone right for you.  For every “wrong” thing, if you really look, you’ll probably find dozens of right things to focus on, and when you focus on them, they bring in even more right things to a happy cluster of great experiences.

[The TJ's Bed & Biscuit rescue pups are back.  These cuties were rescued by Savings Grace Rescue of Raleigh, North Carolina, cared for at TJs and eventually placed in their forever homes.   Do they make one of the cutest clusters ever or what? icon smile Cluster Good ]

JUST A NOTE:  In the November 5 post of Ducky with her walking stick, wearing her Commando Ducky Outfit, I included a link where you can donate to the site if you want.  That link went wonky on me and didn’t work.  Several of you (thank you!) e-mailed me and asked me about it.  If you do want to donate, you can use the link that does work: Look to the right side of the Joyful Springer website, at the picture of Ducky that says, “I pose for treats. Donate to my treat fund?”  Click on that picture and it should take you to the Paypal donation page.  Thanks so much to those of you who have donated!!  Ducky has wagged herself silly in appreciation!

Clean Out Your Containers

clean out your containers mattie Clean Out Your Containers

The brain is like a pantry packed with containers full of memories, both good and bad.  Like pantries, we often neglect to clean out our brain storage, letting the bad stuff fester and grow stinky over time.

Joyful Springers clean out their containers.  They consciously let go of negative experiences, releasing resentment and anger so their memories don’t start to reek with bitterness over time.

The next time you feel resentment or anger about some past event, try visualizing the old experience as some moldy glop growing in a plastic container in your mind.  See yourself rinsing out that gunk and scrubbing the container clean.  Clean brain containers leave much more room for creating new happy memories.

[Mattie's back.  Her momma, Brenda McGee, says that Mattie loves yogurt.  As you can see, she makes sure she gets those yogurt containers perfectly clean. icon smile Clean Out Your Containers ]
