Nudge Them Along

Nudge them along tjs puppies Nudge Them Along

Sometimes people don’t believe in themselves enough to go for what they want.  Sometimes they need a little reminder of how capable or brilliant they are.

Joyful Springers nudge them along.  They encourage others to own their strengths.

If someone you know is hesitating about going forward with something he or she wants to do, turn yourself into a friendly cheerleader and remind the person just how good he or she is.  Often, just a few simple words can be all it takes to launch someone to greatness.

[Georgia and her pup and her foster pups are back.  Georgia and these pups were rescued by Savings Grace Rescue of Raleigh, North Carolina and Georgia raised her pups and the other pups at TJ's Bed & Biscuit in Aberdeen, North Carolina.  Obviously, Georgia was good at nudging along these little cuties.  icon smile Nudge Them Along ]

Team It Up

Coach Vince Lombardi said,“Individual commitment to a group effort — that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.”

Joyful Springers team it up.  They understand that they multiply their personal energy tenfold when they combine it with others who are heading in the same direction they are.

Whatever you can do on your own you can do even better when you hook up with a friend or two.  If you have an idea for a new project or business, don’t hoard it.  Share it, and let the energy of a team carry it to places you never thought were possible.

[Pump and Butch are back, and they would like to introduce their new foster? brother, Jeter.  Jeter is an adorable "Springador" puppy.  He's a Springer/labrador mix.  Obviously, he quickly figured out how to be part of a team. I said Jeter is a foster? brother because that's the current plan, but Pump's and Butch's mom, Helen, said they've become pretty attached to the fella.  So we'll see.  icon smile Team It Up ]

Get In Front Of The Parade

Get in front of the parade Get In Front Of The Parade

Author John Naisbitt wrote, “Leadership involves finding a parade and getting in front of it.”

Joyful Springers get in front of the parade.  They look for groups of people moving in directions they believe in and gently lead the charge into fun and fulfillment.

If you want to make a powerful impact on others, don’t try to force people to go your way.  Instead, be a point-person on journeys you respect and set a loving, happy pace that takes you and the people around you to experiences that are good for everyone.
[Meet Georgia, her pup and her foster pups. Pump & Butch's momma, Helen Gibbons', sent me this photo of this sweet girl and the pups.  Georgia and her one surviving pup were rescued by Saving Grace Rescue of Raleigh, North Carolina. When the other pups were rescued too, Georgia nursed and raised them along with her own pup at TJ's Bed & Biscuit in Aberdeen, North Carolina.  TJ does rescue work for Saving Grace.  The pups all found good homes, and Georgia now lives with TJ.]

Do Rescue Work

Although helping others can be something formal like being part of a rescue organization, it can also be very simple.

Joyful Springers do rescue work.  They look for easy and fun ways to lend a helping hand … or mouth.

You can help someone today by holding open a door or passing along a feel-good e-mail or sharing a bit of useful information or letting someone with fewer items go ahead of you in line or giving a compliment  or …. any other of millions of tiny ways you can make an impact.

When you have an intention to be helpful, you’ll be guided to help in ways that will be as fun and easy for you as they will be welcome by others.

Be There

Be there angel riley Be There

Sometimes those we love get into “cages” of struggle and pain, and it seems like we can’t do anything to help them.  But we can.

Joyful Springers are there.  They understand that sometimes the best thing you can do for someone is simply be nearby.

You can’t solve everyone’s problems, but you can offer your comforting presence and your loving energy.  Today and everyday, be there for someone you love.

In Memoriam

Angel Riley

Angel riley 2 Be ThereAugust 1, 2001  – April 20, 2011

[It is with great sadness that I share that one of our regular guest stars, Angel Riley (with her adopted sister, Pump, in the photo above), a sweet girl from Whispering Pines, North Carolina, passed away last month.  On April 5, she suffered a seizure indicative of a brain tumor (she had other related symptoms as well).  Over the next two weeks, she went quickly downhill until she crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

Her momma, Helen, took the photo of Pump & Angel above and the two photos below during the last two weeks of Riley's life.  In the one above, Pump had gotten into the crate to lie with Riley after Riley had ducked into the crate, not feeling well.  In the first one below, Butch laid down by Riley (she's on the left) and stretched out so his head touched her. In the second one below, both Butch and Pump got between Helen and Riley when Helen was lying with Riley.  They took over Helen's spot at Riley's side.  Helen said,  "The love and compassion for the those two sad weeks were incredible.  I think Springers love you until the end and then some!!"  And we love them the same way.

Please take a moment to send Angel Riley loving blessings for everlasting joy and love and a moment to send loving comfort to Helen, her husband, Rich, as well as Butch, Pumpkin and the rest of people and animals who knew and loved Riley as they go through these rough first weeks and months without her. ]

“A Treasure”

Angel Riley spent the first six years, eight months of her life with a family who eventually had to give her up to English Springer Rescue Association (ESRA).  Rich and Helen Gibbons took in Riley as a foster dog, but they “failed” as foster parents;  Rich and Angel Riley fell in love, so she became a permanent part of the Gibbons family.

Helen and Riley’s relationship unfolded more slowly.  Helen had wanted a younger dog, but she discovered the joys of a more mature “girlfriend.”  Riley weighed 76 pounds when she joined Helen and Rich, but with the addition of her 9 month old adopted sister, Pumpkin (Pump) and the fun sport of dock diving, Riley became 55 muscular pounds of “Caroline Dock Dog.”

“Everyone said she had such a sad face but a happy inside,”  Helen says of Angel Riley.  Winner of a tail-wagging contest, passionate about balls, Frisbees, swimming and diving, Riley was an obedient girl who loved life.  On her 9th birthday last year, Riley took fifth place in the junior division of a Carolina Dock Dogs event, and later in the year, she got first place in “Junior Big Air.”

Angel Riley 1 Be There

Helen says about Riley:  “What a great dog!!  What a smart dog!  What a treasure; maybe that is why she was a pirate for Halloween and an angel the year before!”  Helen says they won the lottery when they got Angel Riley:  “She was a giver…a giver of love and happiness.”

The Gibbons’ only had Angel Riley with them for a little over three years, but they cherish every minute of that time.  Their experience is encouragement for anyone thinking of rescuing a senior dog.  As Helen says, “Rescuing an older dog has so many pluses…they outweigh the negatives.”

Size Them Up

Everything you need to know about someone is there for you to see in your first encounter … if you pay attention.

Joyful Springers stay present and alert in new meetings. They drop expectations and just observe and soak in the energy and information in initial interactions.  Because of this, they’re never blindsided by others’ “hidden qualities.”

[Zoey and Nikki Shish are back. Eight year old lab/hound mix, Zoey, wasn't sure to make of the new kitten when Nikki joined Stacy Klesen's furry family, but now they're all happy together in Atlanta, Georgia.]

Set A Fine Example

english springer spaniel set a fine example Set A Fine Example

We often think we don’t make an impact in the world unless we do something big.  But that’s not true.  Simply in how we go about our days, we can have a powerful positive influence on others.

Joyful Springers set a fine example.  They know that just by being kind, upbeat, authentic, and responsible, they can inspire and lead.

In every moment, just by being the best you that you can be, you can give the world an awesome gift.

It’s Okay To Get Protection From A “Big Dog”

hound and kittens its okay to get protection from a big dog Its Okay To Get Protection From A Big Dog

Of course we all want to be strong and independent, and these are great qualities to aspire too.  But the life can get scary and overwhelming at times.  And when it is, sometimes we need help.

Joyful Springers know its okay to get protection from a “big dog.” They understand that when they’re struggling, it’s smart to cuddle up to someone who has more resources, more connections, and/or more power.

If you are feeling lost or scared, know that you don’t have to go it alone.  Somewhere out there is a person who can assist you in a way that will be just right for you.  And asking for that help is not only okay, it’s the wise thing to do.

Have An Underbite

boxer have an underbite Have An Underbite

When people get in our face and verbally attack us, it’s instinct to attack back.  But that kind of confrontation doesn’t serve us.  There’s a better way.

Joyful Springers have an underbite.  Instead of charging in with a growl and bite when confronted, they under-react.  They remain calm, listen if it’s appropriate, and walk away if it isn’t.

You don’t have to engage with people who are raring for a fight.  Stay in your own quiet energy and let them vent if they’re polite about it. If they aren’t, tell them to have a nice day and walk away.  Defensive reactions just escalate the negativity.  And who needs that?

… another wise tidbit from a joyful BOXER.

[Meet Lofty. This uniquely handsome nine-year old boxer is originally from Seville, Spain.  He was abandoned as a puppy, and his momma, Susan Dickson and her then husband, who was in the RAF and stationed in Gibraltar, adopted Lofty and took him back to England with them.  Susan says Lofty is her best friend.  Though some might find Lofty's natural expression intimidating, "He is," Susan says, "one of the happiest dogs I have ever known and loves everybody and everything." Thanks, Lofty, for being a Guest Star on The Joyful Springer!]

Have Some Decorum

Freedom of expression and authenticity are essential for happy living, of course.  But in some situations, we need to pull it together and dial it down a bit.

Joyful Springers have some decorum.  They understand that sometimes they need to be on their best behavior and concentrate more on manners than on doing whatever they want.

Of course, you must be uniquely you all the time.  But that doesn’t mean you need to be impolite.  Even if you’re as quirky as all get out, you can find a little room for manners.
