Stride Forward

Stride forward Stride Forward

The last post focused on the importance of tenacity.  So how can you be tenacious?  Scottish writer, Eileen Caddy describes the process well: “Stride forward with a firm, steady step knowing with a deep, certain inner knowing that you will reach every goal you set yourselves, that you will achieve every aim .”

Joyful Springers stride forward.  They understand that it is a conviction of success that allows them to keep going even when the going gets challenging.

Never go after a goal you want but don’t think you can achieve.  Before you take action, be sure the truth that you can have what you want  replaces all doubts.  Then run with that truth, all the way to the success you want.

[Ducky, aka Commando Ducky icon wink Stride Forward , is now striding forward (with the help of her brace) on the beach, off leash finally!! after a nearly year long rehab following an ACL injury.  It's such a joy to see her stepping out again!]

Have A Little Tenacity

have a little tenacity sweet pea and poppy Have A Little Tenacity

Millions of people make New Years resolutions.  Many of them are already giving up.

Joyful Springers have a little tenacity.  They hang onto their desire even when obstacles are yanking them away from what they want.

Just because something’s trying to keep you from grasping your goal doesn’t mean it’s time to give up the goal.  Hang onto it.  Hold the vision.  When you do, you’ll have the energy and the focus you need to keep any resolution you make.

[Sweet Pea and Poppy are back.  Poppy was still a pup in this photo, but she's creeping up on a year now.  Clearly, she learned early on how to be tenacious. icon smile Have A Little Tenacity ]

Ignore Hangers-On

english springer spaniel IGNORE THE HANGERS ON Ignore Hangers On

Not everyone you know wants you to get ahead.  There will be those who feel threatened when you make big changes.

Joyful Springers ignore hangers-on.  They don’t let anyone keep them from chewing on whatever interests them.

So what if your friends hate that you’re giving up alcohol or your spouse is threatened when you go on a diet or your co-workers wish you wouldn’t do such a great job?  You do what you need to do for you.  Never let others crawl onto your back and hold you back from the life you want to live.

Sit The Bench Once In Awhile

Sit the bench once in awhile rudie and jackie springer spaniels Sit The Bench Once In Awhile

It would be nice if achievement was a simple three-step process:

1. Get an idea.
2.  Work hard.
3.  Get the result you want.

Unfortunately, life has a way of throwing up obstacles that take the simple out of that three-step process.  When this happens while we’re in the middle of step 2, we have a tendency to push harder to try to power on through to step 3.

Joyful Springers sit the bench once in awhile.  They understand that there’s another step in the process of having what they want.  That missing step is kicking back and allowing things to fall into place.

If you’ve been struggling to achieve something and you feel stuck, take a break.  Walk away from it.  Think about something else.  Give your ideas and effort a chance to settle into place while you sit back and take a breather.  Sometimes less turns into a whole lot more.

[Rudie and Jackie are back.  Rudie, about three months old in this photo, joined Jackie and her family in the early part of this year, and he clearly loves his new big sister! icon smile Sit The Bench Once In Awhile ]

Stick To One Thing

englsh springer spaniel stick to one thing1 Stick To One Thing

Humorist Josh Billings said, “Be like a postage stamp. Stick to one thing until you get there.”

Joyful Springers stick to one thing.  They set their sights on a desire, and they don’t let anything yank them away from their intention to achieve that desire.

If it seems like your dream is far, far away, it can be tempting to let it go.  Don’t.  Stay with it.  As long as you keep moving toward it, your dream is on its way to you.

Get In Line

english springer spaniels get in line Get In Line

Sometimes it feels like we have to compete for everything.  What we want is what a million other people want.  Our desires feel like the best show in town and the line to get in seems too long to bother with.  The truth is, though, we sure won’t get in the show if we walk the other way.

Joyful Springers get in line.  They don’t care how many others want what they want.  They claim their chance at it by being where they need to be, even if big crowds are in the same place.

If you feel like your talent or your business idea is too much like that of millions of others so you might as well not bother trying, remind yourself that you live in a world of infinite opportunity.  You can get what you want, but you sure won’t get it if you give up before you start.  You bring something unique to your desire that no one else has.  Focus on that … and get in line.

[The "Rescue Pups" are back.  These adorable babies, the offspring of a mom and dad pair of Springers who came into rescue in North Carolina when the mom was pregnant, would make anyone want to get in line for a Springer.

English Springer Rescue America works hard to find homes for pups like these and rescue dogs like their parents.  If you have the time and financial resources to adopt a Springer who needs a home, visit the Springer Rescue site and click on your area of the map to read about dogs who might be a perfect fit for your family. (Tim and I would adopt a second Springer in a heartbeat if we had the financial ability--maybe when the Joyful Springer is a big success and makes us lots of money .....)  If you aren't able to rescue a Springer, please spread the word by sharing this post using your favorite social networking site and if you are on Twitter, retweet it.  Let's get the word out about rescued Springers who need homes.

Thanks, pups, for being Guest Stars on The Joyful Springer.]

Bear Up

english springer spaniel bear up Bear Up

It’s wonderful when we’re surrounded by a positive support system, when we have friends and family who believe in us and what we’re doing.  Sometimes, though, we don’t have that luxury.  Sometimes choose paths that no one understands, and when we do that, we don’t have others’ support.

What then?

Then we have to believe in ourselves.

Joyful Springers bear up.  They have the fortitude and faith they need to stay firmly on their path no matter what others think of their actions.

Even if no one understands your choices, even if everyone thinks you’re crazy and you feel totally alone, you have all the support you need to keep going.  The support is within you.  Have faith in your own power and possibility.  Have faith in you.

Cross The Lines

english springer spaniel cross the lines Cross The Lines

Okay, so maybe we don’t catch on the first time or the second or the third.  That’s all right.  Learning is a process.

Spiritual teacher David Hawkins said, “All of us must cross the line between ignorance and insight many times before we truly understand.”

Joyful Springers cross the lines.  They don’t let ignorance or inability keep them from having fun.  They just spring into life with eagerness, whether they know what they’re doing or not.

Today, forget what you don’t know.  Think about what you do know, and think about what kind of fun you want to have.  The more you do, the  more you’ll learn, and the better life will be.

[Jackie is back.  Jackie's mummy says Jackie isn't the best catcher in the world.  Recently, though, Jackie's daddy has been taking her to this field with artificial turf. Jackie's mummy says Jackie "is able to remain focused on playing ball better, and even manages to catch a few balls. Mostly, though, she misses." Jackie doesn't seem to care whether she's good at catching or not. Thanks, Jackie, for guest starring again on The Joyful Springer.]

Develop Stick-to-itiveness

english springer spaniel develop stick to itiveness Develop Stick to itiveness

Thomas Edison said, “The three great essentials to achieve anything worthwhile are, first, hard work; second, stick-to-itiveness; third, common sense.”

Joyful Springers develop stick-to-itiveness at an early age.  They hang onto their dreams and goals.

If there’s something you want, clamp onto it and don’t let go.  If you remain true to your vision, you will achieve success.

Ignore The Nippers

english springer spaniel ignore the nippers Ignore The Nippers

When you’re trotting toward your goals, you’re going to encounter those who want to discourage you.  These negative folks like to dog you and take bites out of your enthusiasm.

Joyful Springers ignore the nippers.  They hang onto their faith and keep going even when others predict they’ll fail.

So what if someone else things your idea is dumb or your expectation of success is naive? Stay the course.
