When you have something you want to keep from others, it’s usually one of two things; it’s something about yourself that you think doesn’t live up to others’ expectations OR it’s something you’re ashamed of.  No matter what your secrets are about, keeping them is often draining.

Joyful Springers have nothing to hide.  They live by two rules:  they don’t care what others think about their so-called shortcomings AND they make honorable choices so they never have need to be ashamed.

How much energy do you expend trying to keep secrets from family, friends, or coworkers?  Put that energy instead into living an honest life and letting yourself shine, in all your glorious imperfection.

Joyful Springers are earnest.  They are deeply, genuinely sincere.

Don’t be afraid to reveal your truth.  Drop all pretense, even that designed to “help” others.  When you’re genuine, genuinely great experiences will come your way.

We often feel SO misunderstood.  Then we feel resentful.  Then we cut ourselves off from others.  Then we feel even more misunderstood.

There’s a way to break this nasty cycle.

Joyful Springers explain their position.  They take their stand (or recline), and they happily let others know who they are.

You don’t have to give up your true self and the place you want to be in your life to be understood.  Hold your ground, and then explain who you are.  Give people every chance to know you.

Like Rodney Dangerfield, a lot of us feel like we don’t get any respect.  We feel like we’re not seen, not heard, not acknowledged.  And that may be.  But who’s fault is that?  Ours.

Joyful Springers put themselves across.  They clearly express their ideas and opinions so others not only hear them but understand and acknowledge them.

The world gives back to you what you give to it.  Want to be heard?  Put your truth out there to BE heard.

Many of us are terrified of being vulnerable.  We hold our secrets close and remain aloof so we don’t reveal too much of ourselves.  We think that if we share ourselves, we’ll be judged.

Joyful Springers have open book moments.  They’re willing to be vulnerable with others, and they open their hearts to share their truth.

Obviously, you don’t want to pour out your innermost thoughts in inappropriate situations, but when you connect with friends and family, let your “inner pages” show.  Real connection starts with truth.

Own Your Messes

We all make mistakes.  There’s no shame in it.  There is shame, however, in trying to pass off responsibility.  Pointing fingers at others, suing someone just because they have more money than we do even when we made the mistake, lying to ourselves or others about what we did–these paths are never justified.

Joyful Springers own their messes.  When they make a mistake, they step up and look others in the eye and say, “Yes, I did that.  I’m sorry.”

Be honest with yourself about things that go wrong in your life.  Is it really someone else’s fault?  Or could you perhaps take responsibility and make a change that will correct the situation?

Joyful Springers create symmetry.  They find ways to interact with others and with themselves in a harmonious way.  They do this by staying present and honest in all their interactions.

When you live in a reactionary way, unaware of or unwilling to express your truth, you’ll always be out of balance with yourself and others.  Stay aware of your feelings today and let them guide you to the harmony you want in your life.
